Daughtry House, 1870 – Commerce

Commerce, Georgia – Jackson County – The Daughtry House, built in 1870, stands proudly near the old mill in Commerce.  I’ve watched this house over the last few years, when it was a special event facility, then for sale for a while.  With new owners, it’s looking good!  Interesting history here.

When built in 1870, it was one of the finest homes in Commerce (which was actually called Harmony Grove at the time).  A local merchant, Robert Leroy Daughtry, bought the home and lived here until his death in 1927.  His wife remained in the home until 1945.

I have a photo from 1907, when the Daughtry family lived here (from prior events website).

Over the years, the McCorkle family lived here.  Mr. McCorkle was superintendent of the nearby mill (in fact, really easy walking distance to the old mill!).
