Quitman, GA – Dr. Jelks built this house, though many also know it as the McMichael House. We also have an old photo of the home available from the Brooks County Museum & Cultural Center. The Jelks House has interesting stories to tell!
Quitman, GA – Kingfisher Plantation has played quite a role in Brooks County history, and was home of the Young Family until the 1950s. Part of the property was sold in 1859 to establish Quitman, the County Seat – 283 acres sold for $1,415!
Brooks County, Ga – Visiting rural churches is a great way to better understand the history of communities. During my trip to Quitman, I had the opportunity to stop and see Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. Take a look around the beautiful spot!
